Why does the Exam system in India needs to change?
We are all aware that the Indian Education system makes us mentally enslaved people! The biggest reason for it is examinations.
The current examination systems are frustrating for both students and teachers. It is high time we should seek some constructive changes in our education system for the betterment of both children and the teachers.
Why Exams Fail our Youth?
Problem Number 1: No Conceptual Learning.
Why are exams wrong?
The reason is that it does not focus on conceptual learning. So, what is the alternative to evaluate students, if not exams?
The answer is ‘Bloom’s Taxonomy.’ It divides our learning process into six parts: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate and create.
This method states that we begin by reading and understanding things. The focus is on understanding and the application of learning. Then an application of knowledge is ‘analyzed.’ The results are evaluated, and the learning process is concluded with creativity.
If our books tell the absolute truth, why does this learning method need to replenish?
Why do we not update the method of learning to eradicate this issue?
Problem Number 2: Exam first mindset.
Exams are so wrong because it’s widespread that we tend to forget the things we learned after exams. We give so much importance to our exam numbers that in this race to get better marks in the examination, students cheat the exams.
Around 64% of students candidly admit that they have cheated at least once in exams.
Just imagine the numbers you achieve by cheating can be genuine to how much extent?
You can cheat in exams but cannot cheat in life.
Eventually, how much you go further is decided upon your skills, nothing else.
Problem Number 3: We all are different! We all have different IQs!
Exams should not be the only way to judge boys and girls. Every student is not the same type of learner. Some students learn by experiencing things. Others by observing others. Some students learn by listening to songs/music.
Just think! Does our education system provide justice to each type of learner? Or does it gives preference who are just good at cramming things?
We all are different kinds of learners, but examination gives preference to the one who can quickly memorize things.
Problem Number 4: It is a Rat Race
The examination system does not provide healthy competition because securing fewer numbers means you are not worth it!
This nature of the Indian examination system is the reason for the suicide of many students every year.
Problem Number 5: Slaves of the systems
Our education system has not changed since the time of the Industrial revolution! The then education system was the best fit for that era, but it doesn’t fit in now. The current education system teaches us hierarchy means there are some people in power and some people without power, and you have to listen to the one in power.
Why are exams wrong?
Because it makes our youth people’s pleasers, we should bring mediocrity to an end if we want excellence!
